ABOUT
Born in 1982 in Yamagata Prefecture, Naoki Saito graduated from Tama Art University and worked at Konami Digital Entertainment before going freelance.
His first Pokémon cards came in HeartGold & SoulSilver. He works digitally, in a style described as vibrant and surreal — merging the organic with the geometric and leaning hard on texture. On cards he uses high contrast and bright highlights to lift the Pokémon out of its background.
His Pokémon work runs beyond the TCG: map and boss art for Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, artwork for Black and White, and trainer graphics for Sun and Moon. Elsewhere he has illustrated for Duel Masters and Monster Hunter, and works as a manga colourist.
