ABOUT
Masakazu Fukuda worked in character and graphic design at Japanese game companies through the 1990s before going freelance. His first Pokémon cards came in 2003, in EX FireRed & LeafGreen — Meowth, Persian and Tauros.
He is best known for the Pokémon ☆ cards: he illustrated every one of them, deliberately exaggerating angle and colour so they would stand out from everything else in the set. His style more broadly is bright and saturated, using colour and detail to give each Pokémon a distinct character.
Beyond Pokémon he has illustrated for Shin Megami Tensei, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, along with CD covers and packaging art. His favourite Pokémon is Lugia.
